Aglianico del Vulture
Wine · PDO · 15 municipalities
Established in 1973, the Aglianico del Vulture DOC encompasses fifteen Basilicata municipalities, including Acerenza and Barile. What sets this denomination apart from other regional classifications is its streamlined product range; the official regulations permit only two typologies—a still base red and a sparkling spumante—conspicuously omitting any formal 'riserva' category. Both wine styles must be crafted using 100% Aglianico del Vulture or Aglianico grapes, with vineyard yields capped strictly at 10.0 tonnes per hectare. The resulting base red wine, which must achieve a minimum alcohol content of 12.5% by volume, is ready for release in September of the year following the harvest.
