Cisterna d'Asti
Wine · PDO · 13 municipalities
Recognized since 2004, the Cisterna d'Asti DOC spans 13 Piemonte municipalities, including Antignano and Ferrere. This denomination distinguishes itself from neighboring zones by mandating that the Croatina grape comprise at least 80% of the blend, creating a highly specific red wine profile. Uniquely, the production rules completely omit a 'riserva' category. Instead, wines are classified into base and 'superiore' tiers, where the 'superiore' requires 10 months of aging starting from November 1 of the harvest year. Despite these specific production guidelines and a maximum yield limit of 9.0 tons per hectare, this appellation currently lists zero verified producers.
