Dolcetto d'Alba
Wine · PDO · 36 municipalities
Recognized since 1982, the Dolcetto d'Alba DOC spans 36 municipalities in Piemonte, including the renowned hills of Barolo and Barbaresco. This monovarietal wine must be made from 100% Dolcetto grapes, adhering to a maximum yield of 9.0 tonnes per hectare to produce its characteristic dry, almond-toned flavor. What sets this denomination apart from its neighbors is its versatile classification flexibility under scelta vendemmiale rules. Growers can choose to declassify their crop to Langhe DOC, or, in a highly localized exception, grapes harvested specifically from the municipality of Coazzolo can alternatively be bottled under the Monferrato Dolcetto DOC designation.
