Nebbiolo d'Alba
Wine · PDO · 32 municipalities
Recognized since 1973, the Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC stands out from neighboring Piedmont appellations by allowing its mandatory 100% Nebbiolo grapes to be crafted not only into dry, velvety still reds, but also into sparkling Spumante. Uniquely, these sparkling variations can be red, rosé, or white, produced using either the Martinotti or classic method. While the still red requires at least 12 months of ageing to develop its characteristic ruby-to-garnet color, the sparkling styles offer an uncommon expression of the grape. Cultivated across 32 municipalities including Bra and Castagnito, this denomination provides a diverse stylistic range unmatched by its still-wine neighbors.
