Pignoletto

Wine · PDO · 11 municipalities

In the hills around Bologna and ten other municipalities of Emilia-Romagna, the Pignoletto denomination defines its identity through the Grechetto gentile grape, known locally as Alionzina. Distinct from neighboring wines that use a 'Riserva' designation, this territory elevates its quality through the 'Classico Superiore' tier. This category restricts yields to 9.0 tons per hectare, mandates at least 95 percent Grechetto gentile, and bans any release before October 4 of the year following harvest. This process produces a straw-yellow wine featuring aromas of lily of the valley and a characteristic slightly bitter almond finish.
