Vallagarina
Wine · PGI · 21 municipalities
Established in 1999, the Vallagarina PGI encompasses twenty-one municipalities, including Ala and Avio, where eighty-seven verified producers cultivate grapes like Marzemino and Nosiola. What distinguishes this denomination from adjacent territories is its administrative flexibility. Under a proven-tradition derogation, vinification and sparkling wine processing can legally occur outside the defined cultivation area, reaching into Lombardy and Veneto. Furthermore, Vallagarina enforces uneven yield limits across its regional borders: varietal wines produced within the Trento portion are capped at 19.5 tonnes per hectare, whereas those produced in Verona province are permitted the generic maximum of 23.0 tonnes per hectare.
