Villamagna
Wine · PDO · 3 municipalities
Established in 2011, the highly localized Villamagna DOC distinguishes itself from broader Abruzzo designations by restricting production to just three municipalities: Villamagna, Bucchianico, and Vacri. To guarantee concentrated depth, the appellation enforces strict quality controls, including a complete ban on must enrichment and a rule that grapes can only be harvested for the DOC starting from a vineyard's fourth year after planting. The resulting red wine must contain at least 95% Montepulciano grapes. For the standard bottling, aging lasts until at least September 1 of the year following the harvest, yielding an intense ruby-red wine with a minimum of 13.0% alcohol by volume.
