The limestone soil and harsh climate yield the durum wheat necessary for the legendary Pane di Altamura DOP, a bread shared with only four other municipalities. Simultaneously, this stony ground nurtures robust vines, most notably producing the deep, tannic Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG. Here, extreme semi-arid conditions force roots deep, concentrating the character of Puglia's most distinctive grains and grapes.
