Province of Prato

Carved out from Florence in 1992, Prato is one of Italy’s smallest provinces, yet it packs a formidable culinary punch. Concentrated within a tiny territory, it boasts 20 protected denominations. What truly sets Prato apart from its Tuscan neighbors is the Carmignano DOCG, produced in Carmignano and Poggio a Caiano; it is the region's only historic appellation requiring Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Sangiovese since the Medici era. Complemented by the uniquely spiced Mortadella di Prato IGP, this miniature province offers a distinctively bold, historic blending of French and Tuscan elements found nowhere else.
