Baunei clings to the steep limestone cliffs of central-eastern Sardinia's Ogliastra subregion, where isolated valleys and dramatic elevation changes shape a highly specialized agricultural landscape. This rugged terrain nurtures 18 protected denominations. Local microclimates define the character of Ogliastra IGT, a wine restricted to a narrow zone of 25 municipalities. Alongside these vineyards, the mountain pastures yield the ingredients for Culurgionis d'Ogliastra IGP, a handmade, mint-and-potato-stuffed pasta crafted within a zone of just 26 municipalities. These distinctive flavours thrive precisely because of Baunei's geographic isolation between the Gennargentu peaks and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
