Marche

Marche is the only Italian region where the Verdicchio grape splits into two distinct DOCG territories: the maritime hills of Castelli di Jesi and the high-altitude valley of Matelica. In the Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva DOCG zone of 19 municipalities, sea breezes shape saline white wines, whereas the landlocked Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva DOCG yields structured, mineral profiles. Both of these flagship denominations register exactly 480 verified producers. Further south, the mountain town of Camerino concentrates this diversity, claiming 13 overlapping protected denominations within its borders.
